This course is designed for graduate students of all majors. It aims to provide students with new perspectives of appreciating canonical English and American literary works with prominent narration of science and technology. Students will enjoy themselves through discovering the constant interaction between literature and science, thus lessening the general sense of distance between serious literature and real life due to the gaps of time and space as well as narrowing the gap between humanities and scientific disciplines. By getting in touch with some of the greatest minds in human history, they will embark on a journey of literature that is both fun and enriching. They will learn to become critical and experienced readers and their perception of the nature of knowledge and culture may be sharpened. In the meantime, their English language proficiency can be enhanced.
Students are required to proactively participate in class activities. They are encouraged to form pairs or small groups to give oral reports or presentations. A term paper is required based on the works and topics discussed in class.

安帅，北京大学英语系文学博士，2017.9-2018.9于加州大学伯克利分校公派留学，主要研究领域为叙事理论与小说阐释。曾在《外国文学研究》等核心期刊上发表代表性学术论文，主持国家社科基金后期资助暨优秀博士论文出版项目1项，国科大青年教师能力提升项目1项，发表专著一部、学术译著一部。
