本课程为建筑设计及其理论学科的研究生专业基础课。本课程以二十世纪后半叶西方建筑理论界的经典论战材料为基础，通过教师梳理理论演进和论战线索，全方位呈现以“大城市”为背景展开的建筑理论发展画面，通过课下文献阅读、课堂讲授、讨论及相关影片的观摩，促进研究生对百年来建筑学理论发展脉络的把握，对建筑领军人物和建筑大事件的全面解读，全方位提高研究生对建筑学专业英语的听、说、读写的能力。
本课程要求研究生每人每周完成至少2篇专业经典文献的阅读，最终课程论文需用英文撰写。
