本课程是为我校招收的各学科、各专业攻读硕士学位的研究生开设的公共选修课。学生应该在硕士学习期间继续提高听、说、读、写、译各个方面的能力，但随着近年来各高校和研究单位的国际合作和交流不断增多，迫切要求学生在此阶段就具备一定的国际性学术交流能力，特别是口语表达能力，如接待外宾，主持国际会议，宣讲论文和参加讨论会等。学生们自己也要走出去，或参加国际会议，或出国深造。因此，他们对这方面的需求也很迫切。通过本门课程的学习，学生应该能够在这类情况下基本应付可能遇到的学术交流任务，掌握这些活动的一般程序和所需的特殊语言技能。
